‘Ridiculously bad’ Marvel film unexpectedly tops Netflix’s most-watched list

A Marvel film that’s been branded as “one of the worst movies” has soared to the top of Netflix’s movie charts.

An “underwhelming” film that’s achieved an appalling 10% Rotten Tomatoes scoare has become Netflix’s most-watched movie.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe remains the world’s biggest film franchise, thanks not only to the box-office smashing Avengers films but individual superhero movies including Thor, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Hulk.

So when the superhero franchise expands, fans inevitably rush to cinemas to explore another chapter of the MCU’s story.

As expected, this happened again with Madame Web, a Marvel action thriller starring Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson which was released in February 2024.

However, what fans weren’t anticipating was a Marvel film they couldn’t help but describe as “underwhelming and nonsensical”.

Earning a dismal 10% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Madame Web viewers shared their thoughts and didn’t mince words.

“Not much to say honestly this movie is so ridiculously bad it’s funny”, one person wrote.

Another agreed: “I’ve attended funerals that were more enjoyable than Madame Web.

“This should have a government health warning at the start. You will feel worse for watching it. Terrible.”

One user remarked: “Wow this is just trash”, whilst numerous reviewers called it “one of the worst movies I have ever seen”.

Despite these overwhelmingly negative reviews, since Madame Web dropped on Netflix on Saturday, November 29, it has rocketed to the number one most-watched film position.

Madame Web is currently outperforming newly-released Christmas film Jingle Bell Heist, animated movie Migration, 21 Jump Street featuring Jonah Hill and festive flick That Christmas.

The plot centres around New York City paramedic Cassandra Webb, with Madame Web charting her journey as she begins to exhibit clairvoyant abilities.

Star-studded cast includes Dakota Johnson, Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, The Last of Us actress Isabela Merced and American Horror Story star Emma Roberts.

Madame Web is available to watch on Netflix.
