Angry Ginge’s mum has hit out at her son’s famous nickname and explained the reason behind it. The Twtich streamer, whose real name is Morgan Burtwhistle, found fame online with the username that alludes to his supposed character and hair colour, but now his mum Michelle has revealed where it all came from in the first place.
The YouTube star has become a fan favourite on this year’s edition of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and appearing via live link on Monday’s edition of Lorraine alongside Ginge’s sister Tasha, Michelle insisted that he is nothing like the name would suggest.
She said: “I am so, so proud of him and he isn’t angry. That was the name he came up with quite a few years ago when he used to sulk when he’d lost a football match on FIFA but now he’s not angry, he’s the most caring, kind person you could meet!”

Encouraging viewers to vote for Ginge to stay on the show and ultimately become King of the Jungle, Michelle noted just how surprised she was that her son had managed to face his fear of spiders.
She added: “That was the worst one that I thought he might come across that he wouldn’t do, the spiders. As I said in the letter from home, doesn’t even like putting the wheelie bins out at night in case there’s a tiny spider on it so honest to God, he has really, really surprised me with that.”
Ginge has also become known for his friendship with rapper Aitch during their time in the jungle, and they have become something of a comedy trio alongside actress Ruby Wax. But way back in the beginning of the series, the Absolutely Fabulous star ruffled a few feathers when she found out the social media personality’s real name. She said: “Oh, I see why you changed it. It’s so not cool!”
Just days ago, Ginge’s pal Jakey Davies, who is a member of The Bov Boys with the TikTok star, spoke out about the emotional reason Ginge wants to be declared winner of I’m A Celeb. He said: “He said he wants to do it for her and make her proud – he values his family so highly. He is that inspiration for people from a working class background.” Ginge’s mum Michelle raised him and his sister on a council estate in Salford, Gtr Manchester, on a salary of £12,500 a year. It was in his bedroom that he first started live-streaming himself playing football video games under the username Angryginge13.
He has now amassed more than five million followers across his accounts – and is the bookies’ favourite to claim the Jungle crown. Earlier this week Ginge was seen in tears as he missed his mum in camp.
And Jakey said: “I’ve not seen that emotional side to him…but you have to remember that Ginge hasn’t been on holiday since 2017, never mind going to a different country and having zero contact to home. So it’s just a build up of emotions. I think he had a bit of a knock back that day as well by some of his camp mates which made him feel a little bit alienated.I think it is nice for people to understand he is just human.”
Jakey was referring to the only real flash point which saw Jack Osbourne and Ruby appear uneasy about Ginge and Aitch becoming camp leaders. But Jakey said that this was probably down to the fact that they might not have understood his sense of humour. “Him and Aitch meant no harm… there are some people in there who aren’t necessarily from the UK, and they might not understand certain sarcastic traits,” he says.
Jakey said he wasn’t worried about his mate going into the jungle – because what you see is what you get. He added: “He’s genuinely exactly the same as he’s on camera, and he’s just a nice person. So I wasn’t worried about the public opinion, because he’s not controversial. He’s literally just a sound bloke.”
And he said that Ginge’s success was extra special as he is just a hard-working kid from Manchester. “I feel like every time someone becomes a bit successful, it’s typically from London,” he says. “He means a lot to people in Manchester.”
