I’m A Celebrity fans are convinced that the contraband controversy in camp is staged ‘to create drama for the cameras and force a story’.

Monday’s instalment of the ITV show saw EastEnders star Shona McGarty, 35, get appointed leader of camp – however she wasn’t it for long, as she ended up doing something that cost her the title.

Her new power appeared to go to her head and she didn’t mind breaking the rules after she put some butter (which is banned from camp) in her beans.

Shona decided not to share any of it and the rest of her co-stars were in utter shock when she revealed that she had broken the rules.

The soap star read out that there had been contraband in camp, and she either had to step down as leader or they lost two stars from the trial.

A shocked Kelly asked: ‘What have you done?!’

Monday's episode saw Shona, 35, get appointed camp leader - but she wasn't it for long as she ended up doing something that cost her the title

Her new found power appeared to go to her head and she didn't mind breaking the rules, as she ended up putting a slab of butter (which is banned from camp) in her beans

Shona confessed: ‘I found some butter in the trunk.’

AngryGinge shouted: ‘Oh my lord. She snuck butter in!’ to which she replied: ‘I didn’t!’

Lisa asked: ‘Where did you get butter from?!’ and AngryGinge continued: ‘The only person who would surely admit it, would have been Alex.’

Shona said in the Bush Telegraph: ‘I don’t know where it came from, true story. But I saw it and my eyes lit up… and I used it.’

A hysterical Kelly shouted: ‘She didn’t even share it! Someone took the risk and you ate it!’

AngryGinge continued: ‘So she saw the butter and she took it for herself.’

Kelly then told the camera: ‘I hope she’s learnt her lesson.’

Many took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a theory that the situation had been ‘staged’.

‘Do we think the producers give them the contraband to create drama? Surely they’re not eating 2 week old butter that’s not been in the fridge.’

‘I don’t believe this contraband stuff. All for camera and drama.  ‘

‘How do they keep getting contraband in the jungle?’

‘Ok so the producers are 100% planting contraband to force story and punishment, everyone who goes in there knows it’s not allowed and they already got punished before for having it. This is dumb now lmao #ImACeleb #ImACelebrity.’

‘They already got done for contraband once why did Shona think she’d get away with not handing in the butter.’

‘There is more contraband in the camp still, HOW?!’

‘Told you, contraband was planted by the producers to try and cause drama.’

Daily Mail have contacted ITV for comment.

It’s not the first time that one of the campmates have snuck contraband into camp.

Last week Alex Scott, 41 – who was the first to leave the show – faced the wrath of bosses after she used salt to season the camp meal of crocodile feet, rice and vegetables.

After AngryGinge won 10 stars in the Bushtucker Trial, it was up to Alex and Jack Osbourne to do the cooking.

While Jack got to work on boiling the crocodile feet, Alex pulled out sachets of salt as she prepped the vegetables and rice.

She said: ‘Jack you have fun with the crocodile toes and all of that section and just give me the mushrooms, potatoes and kale. I’ll add some flavours in. I know people are going to be happy.’

Reflecting on the footage, Ant said: ‘Was that a bit of seasoning added?’

To which Dec replied: ‘I think it was, I think it was contraband. What’s going to happen? Watch this space.’

Over the weekend Alex opened up about sneaking contraband in the I’m A Celeb camp – and who knew about it.

Speaking with Daily Mail, Alex said: ‘We didn’t have luxury items this year so on the way in, I stopped and got a chicken salad, how boring.

‘And then there was all these sachets of salt and pepper, so I was like, “Let me just pick up a few, and see if I can manage to get them in camp.”

‘And I put them down my sock on the coming in day and managed to get it in.’

She revealed that Jack knew about the salt right away because he was on cooking duty and she would pass it to him on a spoon.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues Monday at 9pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
