A binge worthy Netflix limited series you can watch in one day is praised as ‘probably the best show Netflix has put out in years’.

As users of the streaming platform settle down for the weekend, many are wondering what title they haven’t yet watched can occupy their time. In a recent post on the Netflix subreddit, one person asked just that.

In their post, the person in need set the scene: “Weekend afternoon, husband and I were planning to host some friends for cocktails and a lovely dinner, but they just called to cancel the last minute because they are sick and don’t want to make rest of us ill.

“So we have the night to ourselves, for date night some amazing cocktails, appetisers and a grilled porkchop dinner ahead of us. Don’t feel like inviting anyone else, so I’m currently searching for a good Netflix limited series to watch tonight. Something good, like a thriller or action packed. Any suggestions welcome! I’m running out of patience scrolling aimlessly and reading reviews.”

While some suggested more recent releases such as Department Q and American Primeval, one of the most popular responses recommended a title released a few years ago that may have passed some by. Godless was made available on Netflix back in 2017.

According to its synopsis, it follows notorious criminal Frank Griffin, played by Jeff Daniels and his gang of outlaws are on a mission of revenge against Roy Goode, played by SAS Rogue Heroes and Skins star Jack O’Connell.

He is a son-like protégé who betrayed the brotherhood. While on the run, Roy seeks refuge with hardened widower Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery), an outcast herself, in a worn-down, isolated mining town of La Belle, NM — governed mainly by women. When word reaches La Belle that Griffin is headed their way, the town bands together to defend against the murderous gang in a lawless western frontier.

Godless was created and written by Scott Frank, whose previous credits include penning the screenplay for Logan and Minority Report. He also helmed shows such as The Queen’s Gambit and Dept Q.

Recommending the seven-part series, one person commented: “Godless – probably the best show Netflix has put out in years. 10/10. It’s perfect for both men and women.”

Another agreed saying the show “has it all” while another claimed it is “better than American Primeval”. Critics and fans still sing its praises all these years later, after it registered an impressive 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

One fan described it as: “Instant Western classic masterpiece, stylish, intriguing, violent and beautiful, all at the same time.” While someone else claimed it “exceeded all expectations” and despite some small issues, compared it to “like a Game of Thrones you can binge in a weekend.”

Someone else posted: “Godless is, without a doubt, one of the best Western series I’ve ever seen. It has that vintage, classic feel that captures the essence of the Wild West while delivering a fresh, captivating story. Set in a small, isolated town of women after a mining accident, the series brings together action, deep emotion, and unforgettable characters.”

Godless is streaming on Netflix.
