A professional cleaner has shared a simple step-by-step guide to removing grease from your oven knobs without taking them off. In what may come as welcome news to frustrated homeowners, it turns out that cleaning your appliance’s knobs isn’t a difficult task, provided you use the correct cleaning agent and a certain type of cloth or sponge.
Repeated cooking can lead to the accumulation of grease around the knobs, potentially leading to them becoming stuck, but one cleaning expert claims that the issue can be solved with a high-performing “multipurpose cleaner”.
Lindsay Droz, the co-founder of cleaning brand L’AVANT Collective, noted that you should use a microfibre cloth or sponge as part of a method that means you simply won’t have to remove the knobs.
She told the Spruce: “The best way to clean greasy stove knobs without removing them is to spray a high-performing multipurpose cleaner directly onto a microfiber cloth or sponge—never directly onto the appliance, to avoid liquid seeping behind the knobs.”

Lindsay has even shared a handy six-step guide to the non-abrasive method to help you in your task, starting with your supplies and ending with the final wipe down.
1. Collect your supplies
Lindsay suggests a multi-purpose cleaner and two microfibre cloths (make sure they’re clean) or, alternatively, a sponge to replace one of them. Other useful extras include a cotton swab or toothbrush with soft bristles.
2. Spray onto the cloth, not the knobs
You can then spray the solution directly onto the cloth.
3. Allow it to sit
Once you’ve sprayed the solution, hold your cloth on each knob for 20 to 30 seconds.
4. Scrub away
You can now gently scrub around the oven knobs, prioritising the areas where the grease accumulates.
5. Ensure you reach the tight areas
As you may not be able to reach into the tighter areas with your cloth, the expert recommends using a swab or toothbrush at this point so you can ensure everywhere gets the same treatment.
6. The finishing touches
Now is the time to take your second microfibre cloth and dampen it with water before carefully wiping off any remaining residue (Lindsay pointed out that the microfibre material will ensure you don’t simply move the grease around or scratch the surface).

It follows a report last year from a separate cleaning expert, Chantel Mila, known as @mama_mila on TikTok. Sher shared a hack with her followers that she claimed could get your oven door sparkling in only 10 minutes.
Her method involved using a dishwasher tablet and a sponge to tackle the grease on the inside of the oven. Her results ultimately impressed members of the public.
One said: “Just tried the dishwasher tablet trick and it’s impressive! Way better than the strong smelling oven cleaner.”
Another said: “That’s awesome,” and a third added: “You literally save my life every day.”
