Disney+ fans all make same demand as ‘fantastic’ nostalgic horror series cancelled

Subscribers have been left disappointed as a popular Disney+ series was cancelled after just two seasons

Disney+ subscribers have all had a similar reaction as the nostalgic young adult horror series Goosebumps has been cancelled.

The series ran for just two seasons, both telling different stories with a new batch of stars inspired by the iconic spooky novels by RL Stine.

Launching in 2023, the first season featured Justin Long and EastEnders star Zack Morris, while season two was led by Friends star David Schwimmer.

The streamer has announced this week that it won’t be continuing the franchise, despite pulling in 75 million viewing hours in the US alone across both seasons.

According to Variety, production studio Sony Pictures Television is keen to shop the series around to other platforms and explore other options for the property.

Fans of the latest iteration of Goosebumps, which was memorably brought to life with an anthology series in the 1990s and later with two feature films starring Jack Black as Stine, have been left disappointed by the decision.

They have particularly criticised the decision to release season two in January with less marketing than the previous entry, which they believe hurt its chances of growing its audience.

One Redditor commented: “Season 1: released to great fanfare, Halloween-ish time release so fun to watch around the holiday, tons of marketing.

“Season 2: released to a random-a** date in January, I didn’t even realize it was out until maybe April.”

Other fans have issued a demand for a potential third season or reboot, suggesting it adhere closer to the ‘90s series format of a new story and cast in each episode.

“It wasn’t that good and like are you afraid of the dark revival i just wish they went anthology route instead of season long story,” one fan said.

Someone else agreed: “This should have been an anthology series. Immediately had no interest in this when finding out it wasn’t.”

And a final viewer said: “God how hard is it to just get the anthology going again with a higher budget! Give me the Scarecrow walks at midnight cowards!”

There are still plenty of passionate fans of the show, however, so it’s possible Goosebumps could find a new home eventually.

One five-star Google review raved: “B****y fantastic. As a die hard goosebumps fan back in the day, who couldn’t sleep if my sister said “Night of the living dummy!” I think they’ve done a really good job at re-imagining it! 11/10!”

And a second said: “Goosebumps is a spine-tingling delight for fans of the classic R.L. Stine book series like myself, who remember the goosebumps we used to get from reading the books and watching the original TV show.

“This 2023 TV adaptation takes us on a thrilling journey down memory lane, and it’s an absolute blast.”
