Woman rushed to hospital after paraglider crash ‘where her parachute collapsed’

A female paraglider has been rushed to hospital after crashing onto a cliff when her ‘parachute collapsed’. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Beer Head Coast Path in Devon on Friday afternoon following reports that a woman had crashed while landing. 

The paraglider fell at least 10ft after her chute collapsed, the Beer Coastguard Rescue Team said. 

The woman is understood to have landed on her back and was left in ‘a lot of pain’, the team added. 

She was transferred to an ambulance and quickly rushed to hospital. 

Sharing details of the incident, Beer Coastguard Rescue Team said it was ‘tasked to a female paraglider who had crash landed, falling the last 10 feet after her chute collapsed’.

They added: ‘She had landed on her back and was in a lot of pain.

‘Initial casualty care [was] provided by us until the paramedics arrived on scene. Lyme Regis Coastguard also tasked along with HART [Hazardous Area Response Team].

‘Different extraction methods to get the casualty back to the ambulance were considered. 

‘The casualty was transferred to ambulance for [an] onward journey to hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery.’ 

The terrifying ordeal took place on the idyllic Beer Head Coast Path on the Devon coast, a popular walking destination among tourists.
