Man, 25, charged over the deaths of mother and daughter who were killed in ‘fireball’ Boxing Day crash

A man has been charged over a horrific ‘fireball’ crash that killed a mother and daughter on Boxing Day.

Linda Philips, 72, and Amanda Riley, 49, died after their MG ZS collided with a BMW 4 Series and a quad bike near Kitts Green Road, Birmingham, on December 26, 2023.

Mohammed Ibrahim, 25, was charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Ibrahim, from Sheldon, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday for a first hearing.

Linda and Amanda’s family spoke of their ‘devastation’ in a heartbreaking statement released shortly after the tragedy.

They said: ‘Linda and Amanda were cruelly taken from us on Boxing Day.

‘Linda was a beautiful and dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie, and so much more.

‘Her husband, children, grandchildren, and family loved Linda very much, and Linda absolutely adored her family.

‘Amanda was a beautiful and much-loved mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and auntie.

The mother and daughter's heartbroken family said: 'Linda (pictured) and Amanda were cruelly taken from us on Boxing Day'

‘Amanda’s parents, daughters, and grandchildren loved her so much, and Amanda was the apple of her grandchildren’s eye.

‘The family are devastated, and respectfully ask for privacy at this extremely difficult time.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near the junction of Kitts Green Road and Mackadown Lane in Birmingham shortly after 8pm on Boxing Day 2023 but the pair were pronounced dead at the scene. 

Four other people, including a baby, were rushed to hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Shocking footage showing the moment one car exploded in a fireball emerged in the aftermath of the crash. 

Ibrahim will appear before Birmingham Crown Court on May 7.
