Several people shot as police descend on Swedish city

Several people have been shot in eastern Sweden after loud bangs were heard in the city.

Swedish police said on Tuesday that multiple people in the city of Uppsala were found with injuries that indicated there had been gunfire.

The police said in a statement that they had received calls from members of the public who said they had heard noise that sounded like gunfire in the centre of the city.

‘Several people have been found with injuries that indicate gunfire,’ the police said.

A large area was cordoned off and several investigative measures were underway at the scene, they added.

According to Swedish news outlet Expressen, several lives were lost in the shooting, but these reports are yet to be confirmed.

It is unclear whether anyone has been arrested following the incident.

The Swedish Transport Administration stated that train traffic was stopped due to the police operation in Uppsala. However, traffic is expected to resume.

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
