A teenage girl has died and another has been seriously hurt in a minibus crash involving nine youngsters.
The minibus was carrying nine passengers aged between 16 to 18 and collided with a Hyundai car in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, shortly before 12.30pm on Monday.
One girl died at the scene and another was taken to hospital in an ambulance with serious injuries which are believed not to be life-threatening.
Seven other passengers and the man driving the minibus were also treated at hospital for minor injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman, has been arrested, North Yorkshire Police said.
The crash which involved a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus took place near Tadcaster Grammar School.
The school said it would be shut on Tuesday because the site ‘will not be safe for students’.
Police have appealed for witnesses and motorists with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

North Yorkshire Police said they are ‘investigating the tragic death of a teenage girl who was a passenger in a minibus that was in a collision with a car at Tadcaster’.
In a statement, the force said: ‘The incident happened on Toulston Lane – at the junction with Rudgate – at around 12.28pm on Monday.
‘The white Mercedes Sprinter minibus was heading towards Sherburn and the light-coloured Hyundai i10 car entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate.
‘The minibus was carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18.
‘The girl tragically died at the scene.
‘Another teenage girl was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
‘The other passengers, and the man driving the minibus, have received treatment at hospital for minor injuries.
‘The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman, has been arrested in connection with the investigation.
‘Toulston Lane remains closed to traffic as police enquiries continue.
‘We are appealing for any witnesses or motorists with relevant dashcam footage to come forward as soon as possible.’
