The Chase viewers sink claws into ‘worst contestant in the show’s history’ – and even she admits her family will be ‘hiding behind their pillows in embarrassment’

The Chase viewers sank their claws into a contestant who even admitted her family would be ‘hiding behind their pillows in embarrassment’.

Monday evening’s episode of the ITV show saw Bradley Walsh welcome Karen, Carly, Richard and Danny.

The contestants played against Chaser Darragh Ennis, known as the Menace, in an attempt to win a cash prize.

However, when it was police officer Carly’s turn, some viewers were not so impressed.

The 27-year-old from Cumbria secured £3,000 in the cash builder round and before taking on the Chaser, Bradley asked Carly if her miniature dachshund Lenny would be watching.

‘I doubt it, he’ll probably be hiding behind a pillow embarrassed by me,’ Carly replied, laughing.

She went for the lower offer of £1,000 during her head-to-head with Darragh and commented: ‘I’m going to be that girl, I’m going to take the £1,000.

‘I’m sorry guys but I’m not the brightest bulb in any box.’

Darragh supported her decision and said: ‘I’ve been where you’re standing and £3,000 was just the worst choice there. £1,000 or £43,000 were the only sensible options.’

Carly was then knocked out of the game after answering only one question correctly and she said: ‘It was always going to happen Bradley, lets be serious.’

The host commented: ‘I thought those were tricky head-to-heads, four, five really tricky questions.’

‘You will be sorely missed in the final,’ he added.

However, some viewers were shocked and took to social media to share their thoughts: ‘Worst contestant in chase history? I think so. #TheChase.’

‘I’m not the brightest… Says the person who applied to go on a quiz show.’

Someone else joked: ‘She should be arrested on suspicion of taking the low offer #thechase.’

‘Tough questions???… I must be watching a different episode #thechase.’

At the end of the episode, the remaining team didn’t manage to beat Darragh either and went home without a cash prize.

It comes after another contestant who was dubbed the ‘worst on the team’ broke down in tears after an unlikely win.

A previous instalment saw four players, Ali, Fiona, Emma and Nick, attempt to take on Chaser Darragh Ennis, known as The Menace.

Emma, a university student from Nottingham, managed to secure £2,000 in the cash builder round and went for the lower £1,000 offer when it was her turn to face Darragh.

The 19-year-old was successful and brought £1,000 back to the team and took her place in the final chase.

She went on to play a huge role in securing the team’s prize fund and managed to answer several questions, bringing them to victory against Darragh.

Emma was visibly emotional after the win and cried as Bradley asked her what she would do with her share of the prize fund, which came to £4,500 each.

Wiping tears away, Emma replied: ‘Sorry, going to see my cousins in Australia who I’ve never met.’

‘And what are their names?’ Bradley asked.

Emma said: ‘Harry and Annabel.’

The host replied: ‘Well let me tell you, you’ve done a fantastic job congratulations to you darling, I’m thrilled for you, I really am. Enjoy your trip.’
