Some products have been around so long that they start to feel more like furniture. Liz Earle’s Skin Repair Light Cream falls firmly into that camp. You’ve seen it on the shelves, in your aunt’s bathroom cabinet and mentioned in passing by someone with reliably good skin, but despite this hype, you might not have actually bought it before. But when Boots drops it to £10 for the weekly Tuesday deal, down from £28, it feels like a sign from above to give it a go.

What you get with this pot of goodness is a straightforward moisturiser that does an excellent job of hydrating skin, making it appear more plump and youthful. It’s got a soft, botanical scent and a light texture that sinks in fast and doesn’t pill under SPF. It’s also especially good under make-up and works in unison with any serum you currently have on rotation.

Powered by plant-based hyaluronic acid, alongside hydrating borage seed oil and avocado oil, plus soothing echinacea and toning hops, it promises to keep skin dewy, bouncy and hydrated for up to 72, helping to soften the look of fine likes and reawaken dull complexions.

At full price, it’s a bit of a stretch for what is ultimately a very good basic. But at £10, it’s a cream that makes sense to stockpile if you find your skin is prone to overreacting or you don’t like heavy creams in the summer months. For £10, it’s a real win – and many shoppers agree.

One happy buyer on Liz Earle’s product page (where the cream is retailing for £22.40) writes: “Have used this cream for ages. It always feels light and refreshing. I am 78 and am told by many people that I do not look it! Liz Earl has certainly kept the wrinkles at bay, so thank you.”

“I have used this face cream for several years. I find it the perfect consistency for my skin. It is light but adds enough moisture to keep my skin feeling subtle and fresh through the day,” says another.

A third adds: “I have been using this cream for 5 years and wouldn’t use anything else. I have sensitive skin and have had no issues with it,” with a fourth writing: “I don’t like thick heavy creams so this is great for me. My skin feels nourished and supple and has a nice glow to it. Would definitely recommend this cream

Another buyer gives a slighter more balanced review, pointing out that they didn’t find the cream perfect. “Nicer texture than original. Lovely smell but I would prefer less scent as it’s a bit overpowering. Seems to hydrate well,” they share.
