Legendary rapper Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson has been quietly producing beloved TV shows for years.
The latest series on his roster is the forthcoming Netflix documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which examines the life of media mogul and felon Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
Combs was recently found guilty of two counts of transportation for purposes of prostitution, after a highly publicised trial. The 56-year-old is currently serving time in federal prison.
Featuring four episodes, the limited show will be available to stream on Tuesday, December 2.
Its synopsis states: “Through explosive, never-before-seen materials, including exclusive interviews with those formerly in Combs’ orbit, this documentary will lay out the story of a powerful, enterprising man and the gilded empire he built — as well as the underworld that lay just beneath its surface.”
The series will offer viewers a glimpse into Combs’ influence in the entertainment industry, with testimonials from those who know him.
Speaking ahead of its premiere, executive producer Jackson said: “I’ve been committed to real storytelling for years through G-Unit Film and Television.
“I’m grateful to everyone who came forward and trusted us with their stories, and proud to have Alexandria Stapleton as the director on the project to bring this important story to the screen.”
As Netflix subscribers await the hotly anticipated documentary, here are three shows produced by Jackson, which you can stream now.
Power
Perhaps the rapper’s biggest show to date, Power first hit screens in 2014 and went on to air for six years. The crime drama was created by Courtney A. Kemp, with Jackson serving as an executive producer.
It follows wealthy nightclub owner James “Ghost” St. Patrick who also runs a drug empire, using his legal business as a money laundering front.
Jackson is not only on the crew, he also stars in the drama alongside lead actors Omari Hardwick, Joseph Sikora and Naturi Naughton.
Despite receiving a sour 44% Rotten Tomatoes rating after its first season, Power has since earned more impressive scores from viewers. The thriller currently boasts an 81% score from critics and casual audiences.
One fan on the platform shared their verdict, writing: “This show is absolutely addicting. Love every episode. I am HOOKED.”
Power is streaming now on Netflix.
For Life
A little-known gem with that has been hailed as ‘one of the most powerful dramas ever,’ For Life first aired in 2020.
UK viewers likely missed this legal drama because it aired on ABC but it is now available to purchase on Apple TV and Prime Video.
Fronted by British actor Nicholas Pinnock (Hedda), the two-season show follows a wrongfully imprisoned man who becomes a lawyer and starts litigating cases for other inmates, while fighting against his own conviction.
The series was created by writer Hank Steinberg, who drew inspiration from the real-life case of former prisoner Isaac Wright Jr.
Jackson once again serves as this drama’s executive producer and even features in a handful of episodes.
Despite being axed after just two seasons, For Life made an impact on viewers.
One Rotten Tomatoes user raved: “This is one of the most powerful TV dramas I’ve ever seen. The content, being so relevant to today’s climate, the performances, being so powerful and emotional, the writing, being so artful and honest.”
For Life is available to purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV.
Black Mafia Family (BMF)
Another thrilling crime drama inspired by real events, Black Mafia Family premiered in 2021 and ran for four seasons.
Created by Randy Huggins, with Jackson serving as an executive producer, the series follows brothers Demetrius and Terry Flenory as they become powerful figures in a drug and money laundering organisation.
It stars Demetrius Flenory Jr., the real-life son of the man whose story inspired the show. He plays his dad, with actor Da’Vinchi portraying his fictional brother.
Viewers couldn’t get enough of the show when it was airing, with one praising: “Love this show man! Every episode just has you sitting on the edge of the couch biting fingernails anticipating what’s coming next.”
Black Mafia Family is available to stream on MGM+ via Prime Video.
Sean Combs: The Reckoning will be available to stream on Netflix from Dec 2
