Alejandro Garnacho voiced his delight after Chelsea secured a draw against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge despite being forced to play 52 minutes with ten players. Moises Caicedo was sent off for a reckless challenge on Declan Rice following VAR intervention.
The Chelsea midfield ace initially received a yellow card from referee Anthony Taylor, but the decision was upgraded to a red following a VAR assessment. The Premier League Match Centre clarified the ruling on X, which featured Taylor’s official statement.
Their message stated: “#CHEARS – 34′ VAR OVERTURN After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of yellow card to Caicedo and issued a red card for serious foul play.”, reports Football London.

“Referee announcement: “After review, Chelsea 25, makes a challenge with excessive force and endangers the safety of the opponent, therefore my final decision is red card.”
Despite being reduced to ten players, Chelsea managed to break the deadlock through Trevoh Chalobah in the 48th minute, though Arsenal levelled matters via Mikel Merino shortly before the hour mark. Garnacho, who entered the fray as a substitute for Estevao at the interval, has turned to social media to praise his teammates.
On his Instagram story, the Argentine posted a photograph from today’s match, accompanied by the message: “Proud of the team today [blue love heart].” Enzo Maresca was equally delighted with his team’s reaction after being reduced to ten men, but also questioned why Arsenal weren’t similarly down to ten following Piero Hincapie’s apparent elbow on Chalobah.
When quizzed about the Chelsea dismissal, Maresca said: “I just said there, he asked me about Moises’ red card. It’s a red card, but why was Bentancur’s against Reece not a red card when we were at Spurs away?
“So us, as a manager, we struggle to understand why they judge in different way. Moises’ is red card, yes. Bentancur’s is a red card, yes. Why they don’t give him a red card? It’s just that, that we struggle to understand.
“The reality is that it’s red card. But why they judge in different way? And the Trevoh one, I asked the referee, he said to me that it was not an elbow.
“So, this is what they said. [He had a] black eye, with ice at half-time. But they judge in different way.”
