Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres accused of being ‘too nice’ vs Chelsea and should be ‘devastated

Arsenal were unable to extend their Premier League lead as they endured a difficult time against Chelsea and Viktor Gyokeres has come under scrutiny for his efforts against the Blues

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres has been accused of being ‘too nice’ in Arsenal’s draw with Chelsea. The Gunners were unable to capitalise on the Blues being down to 10 men at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel Arteta’s men had to come from behind to claim a point as Mikel Merino got on the scoresheet. The Spaniard called upon Gyokeres’ services from the bench, but the Swede could not find a way past Robert Sanchez in west London.

The summer signing left some onlookers frustrated when one ball in looked destined for his head and the net. It found neither, as an outstretched Jurrien Timber could only flick the ball beyond his team-mate.

Former Arsenal stars Ian Wright and Theo Walcott believe that Gyokeres should have been dominating that area to leave the Dutchman in no doubt. Walcott reckons the Gunners star should be asking questions and that Timber was out of position.

“This is when you get desperate towards the end of games and you want to commit loads of bodies forward,” Walcott told Sky Sports.

“You always feel, though, if a right-back is in this position, I’d be asking questions if I was Gyokeres here and saying, look, this is my space, this is why I’m on the pitch.

“But look, he’s been doing it all season but he’d be disappointed. Gyokeres would have been calling it no doubt but it just annoys me when players are out of position but I understand why Arsenal committed so many bodies.

“Gyokeres is too nice sometimes I think.”

Wright meanwhile, says he would be devastated in Gyokeres’ position. The Arsenal icon reckons Gyokeres should have made his claim to make Timber’s decision obvious.

“Im thinking Gyokeres… if this is me, I’m going be screaming so loud anyone in front of me is gonna drop out [of the way],” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“That is what I have always been told, you have to shout and let them know you’re coming because then Timber moves his head out of the way and Gyokeres comes in and gets a clean header.

“I’d be devastated with that, he’s got to let him know, Viktor Gyokeres has to let Jurrien Timber know ‘I’m coming’ because that is a massive opportunity missed.”
