Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has emerged as a £90million target for Real Madrid after his heroics for Ruben Amorim despite their turbulent campaign. The Portuguese playmaker has been one of the team’s shining lights in a difficult season and he has now caught the attention of the Spanish giants.
Fernandes has 16 goals in all competitions, with 13 assists. The 30-year-old has seven goals in his last seven games and his performances have not gone unnoticed. According to the Daily Star, Madrid scouts have been present at “virtually every United match” in recent months and have identified Fernandes as a perfect fit for Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
He could be a successor to long-serving Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, who is out of contract at the Bernabeu at the end of the season and will turn 40 in September.
Modric has been one of Madrid’s greatest players in recent history and has an incredible record of trophies but the club will need to think about replacing him.

It is claimed that even if Modric were to sign a one-year extension – with the ex-Tottenham man still looking like he could do a job at the top level – it is clear Madrid know his time at the club is reaching its end.
Fernandes’ contract at United will have just two years left to run this summer and United might be put in a difficult position should they receive a bid for their talisman.
It’s also understood that United boss Ruben Amorim is extremely reluctant to lose his star player but the club’s difficult financial position and need to make cuts could force them to consider a big offer.

Footballing chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already made 200 staff redundant this year and cut legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson from his £200m-a-year ambassador role.
The report says United could be facing a “dilemma” over Fernandes, who has carried the club in recent years after helping them win two trophies – the Carabao Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup last season.
Fernandes, who has scored 95 goals from 277 United appearances, is not the only Premier League star Madrid are chasing for next season. Ancelotti’s men have been chasing a move for Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold for months after seeing a £20m bid rejected in January.
Madrid are believed to be advancing in talks to sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer this summer after his Liverpool contract has expired.
