We should expect to see some huge stars enter the Celebrity Traitors castle next year, Faithful Lucy Beaumont believes. The contestant from the first series believes the BBC hit’s overwhelming success means there could be A-Listers aplenty putting their hands up to have a go at the ultimate game of deceit and betrayal.
The comic revealed the cast all still stay in touch via a WhatsApp group and she doesn’t think bosses will have any problem at all recruiting big names when the programme returns. More than 15 million people watched Alan Carr go all the way in October, double-crossing rugby legend Joe Marler and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed in a breathless finale.
Lucy knows it will be an easy sell to celebs and says the show was so popular little kids were queuing for a photo with her a she was buying her milk and bread.

“I’m suddenly really popular with nine-year-old children,” she told The Mirror. “It’s so weird. I was in co-op just doing some shopping and there was a line of just really young children wanting a photo. Younger kids really got into it, which I don’t think anyone was expecting.
“I had only watched one series. I watched really late, after everybody else. I do that, I’ve only just watched Lost and that was on 30 years ago! I liked the format, it is just so clever. The producers weren’t interested in people who would be antagonistic towards each other and that was really important. There were people like David [Olusoga]. He’s genuinely one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in TV. There’s no way he’d start having a spat with anyone!”
Asked if we could see some huge names sign up after its debut success, she said: “Gosh, yes. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to do it. It’s just so, so big. There wasn’t anyone who wasn’t talking about Alan for weeks. I would imagine everyone wants to do it, but you can’t get any bigger than Stephen Fry really, can you?”
She spoke more about what we don’t see and added: “It was full of just genuinely really lovely people. Everyone had a really nice time. We all still stay in contact, we’re in a big WhatsApp group together. It felt like a staff team bonding get-away, you didn’t really feel like it was for TV because you don’t see cameras apart from outside.
“They’re hidden, it’s in no way manufactured. They just leave you to it. There’s no one on the floor coming in and giving direction. It got to the point where I felt like we were flagging early on, no one had any direction. But we soon realised it wasn’t actually needed.”
Million tuned into every episode so it is no real surprise to read Virgin Media’s new research which shows Brits are saving an average of £130.74 per month by swapping social plans for ‘me time’.
To celebrate this widespread embrace of the ‘Joy of Missing Out’ they have teamed up after agreeing that it is so important for relieving stress, with more than two-thirds agreeing that staying in and watching TV is one of their favourite ways to decompress after a long week.
“I think Celebrity Traitors and the response shows everyone needs that full family event,” she added. “Friends have said that they’re gutted because it was the only time the teenagers would sit with them!
“There’s certain shows that people do that far and they’re so important, aren’t they? I genuinely love TV, I need to watch telly to unwind every night. I can’t just go to bed. British television is just incredible and everyone needs to know it!”
