British tennis No.1 Emma Raducanu will hope to capture her best form in time to repeat her stunning US Open win from four years ago with the prize money having increased significantly
Emma Raducanu will rake in a whopping $5million (£3.7m) if she can win the US Open for a second time next month. The Flushing Meadows tournament has announced a record prize pot is up for grabs and will be claimed by this year’s victor.
Raducanu shocked the world four years ago when she went on a fairytale run to claim victory in the United States as a teenager. Now 22, the British star will hope to recapture her best form and stun the tennis world again after appointing new coach Francisc Roig, who previously aided Rafael Nadal.
In 2021 Raducanu earned a cool $2.4m (£1.8m) for her big win, meaning the prize for grand slam success has more than doubled in that time. Tournament officials announced on Wednesday that the overall pot would be the ‘largest purse in tennis history’.
Even in the last 12 months, the prize has been dramatically bumped up. Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner, the 2024 champions, received $3.6m (£2.7m) for their efforts in New York.
The overall pool of funds paid out to players has seen a significant rise of £11m from $75m (£56m) to $90m (£67m) in compensation.

That sees winning men’s and women’s doubles pairs, and champions from the new Mixed Doubles Championship, earning $1m (£750,000) in prize money. First-round main-draw losers will be compensated with $110,000 (£82,000).
The bounty on offer is some way above the riches dished out at Wimbledon last month, despite the fact that the iconic tournament increased its own prize pool. Champions Sinner and Iga Swiatek each took home £3m earlier this summer and the 2025 Championships had a record £53,500,000 pot overall; some £13.5m short of their US counterparts.
Raducanu will hope her latest coaching change can spark a good performance in September. The Brit has added Nadal’s former coach, Roig, to her team in time for next month’s tournament.
Mark Petchey has been assisting Raducanu on a casual basis since March but has not been able to commit to a full-time position due to his media duties during the US hardcourt season. And with new coaching from Nadal’s former mentor, the team will hope they can boost Raducanu’s rankings in time to secure seeding for 2025’s final Grand Slam of the year.
Roig joins in time for Raducanu’s Cincinnati Open campaign, her final tune-up before the US Open. Raducanu most recently was knocked out of the Canadian Open by Amanda Anisimova, who was defeated in the Wimbledon final without winning a game.
