One man has has revealed an unusual marital problem that’s left everyone very shocked. He’s not been able to sleep with his wife for two weeks due to her strange bedtime habit.
Sleeping with your partner in the same bed is an important part of building and maintaining a connection and intimacy. However, according to the National Sleep Foundation, 25% of couples sleep in separate beds – a phenomenon known as ‘sleep divorce’.
The term ‘sleep divorce’ refers to couples choosing to sleep in separate beds or even separate rooms to improve their sleep quality and address potential problems caused by their partner’s habits, such as snoring, tossing, and turning. This trend is emerging as couples prioritise their sleep health, ensuring that both partners can get enough rest, which, in turn, can improve their overall relationship.
In a recent Reddit post that has gone viral, the man revealed his frustrations and how the situation has led to a strain on their relationship. Describing his wife’s bedtime routine as “unnerving,” he highlighted a particular habit that crossed the line and disrupted their ability to share a bed.

According to the post, every night, his wife has been playing whale sounds to help her fall asleep. While this may seem harmless, albeit slightly annoying, the situation escalated due to the loud volume and the repetition of the audio.
He wrote: “Full blast, speakers on either side of the bed, deep ocean whale calls echoing through our room like we’re sleeping at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.”
As a result, the man could no longer tolerate sleeping with her, despite his attempts to lower the volume, as the whale sounds were essential for her sleep. This led to the couple sleeping separately, with the man even resorting to sleeping in his car. Two weeks later, he decided to take to Reddit to ask other users for their opinions on whether he was being unreasonable or if his wife was truly being disruptive.
The viral post received a variety of reactions, ranging from sympathy and disbelief to, naturally, humour. Many users suggested obvious solutions, such as using earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones, while others joked about how absurd it was for whale sounds to affect a marriage.
However, others expressed concerns and offered tips on how the married couple could address the issue and improve their communication without it affecting their relationship.
One user wrote: “She can’t hijack the bedroom. Like you said she could wear headphones. She needs to be a better partner and compromise on this.”
Another commented: “It’s not like snoring, where it’s done unconsciously. She is being inconsiderate of your SHARED space. Claim your shared space.”
There are a a lot of pros and cons of living with your partner. Although it may seem like a fairytale at first, small habits and preferences can sometimes become issues that require communication and compromise to resolve.
