‘Masterpiece’ biopic about controversial celeb with 96% rating now streaming

Fans insist the Oscar-winning drama is ‘endlessly rewatchable’

A highly praised biopic, dubbed as ‘one of the best films ever’, is now available on Prime Video, with fans declaring it ‘endlessly rewatchable’.

The drama, which was originally released in 2010, bagged three Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Original Score.

But its accolades didn’t stop there, the film also earned esteemed director David Fincher a nomination for the Best Director award. We are, of course, talking about The Social Network.

Based on Ben Mezrich’s 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires, it charts the creation of social media giant Facebook.

The film follows Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg as he develops a project that later morphs into the worldwide social networking site, with assistance from his mate Eduardo Saverin.

However, when the site becomes a massive hit, Mark finds himself facing legal action from twins who believe he nicked their idea, and from Facebook’s co-founder Eduardo.

Despite its relatively straightforward plot, the drama is elevated by a star-studded cast who portray its occasionally unsympathetic characters.

Jesse Eisenberg, known for his role in Now You See Me, stars as Mark Zuckerberg, alongside Spider Man star Andrew Garfield as his business partner Eduardo, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Eisenberg’s performance impressed both critics and audiences, earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Leading Actor.

While he missed out on the gong – losing to Colin Firth for The King’s Speech – his performance continues to earn acclaim more than 15 years on.

The supporting cast was equally impressive, featuring Rooney Mara (Women Talking), Oscar nominee Justin Timberlake, and Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name).

With such a stellar ensemble and Fincher at the helm, The Social Network unsurprisingly garnered rave reviews.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the biographical drama an exceptional 96% rating, declaring: “Impeccably scripted, beautifully directed, and filled with fine performances, The Social Network is a riveting, ambitious example of modern filmmaking at its finest.”

Audiences were equally enthusiastic, with one viewer proclaiming: “The Social Network is a modern cinematic masterpiece.”

They added: “And the cast? OMG – every single actor is outstanding. Each character comes alive with remarkable depth, making the film almost overwhelmingly immersive. […] Dialogue, acting, and direction at the highest level. The Social Network is simply unparalleled.”

Another fan enthused: “The Social Network is one of the best movies I’ve seen. The story is really engaging, and the acting is top-notch. Jesse Eisenberg does a great job showing both the smart and awkward sides of Mark Zuckerberg, and Andrew Garfield adds a lot of emotion as Eduardo.”

A third viewer commented: “The Social Network is one of those movies that sneaks up on you with just how endlessly rewatchable it is. I’m always in for a biopic, and with Fincher at the helm, you know you’re in steady, razor-sharp hands-he proves once again why he’s one of my favourite directors.”

Whilst The Social Network draws loosely from controversial billionaire Zuckerberg’s university days, he wasn’t involved in making the film.
