Police have launched a murder investigation after they found the body of a missing dad inside a house six years after he disappeared.
Richard Dyson, 55, was reported missing to police in 2019 – but his remains were not found until July 14 this year at a property in Barnsley. Tests were carried out on the human remains after they were retrieved from inside the home, and today police confirmed they belong to the dad. His family has been informed, and is being supported by trained police officers.
Two men, aged 72 and 71, were rearrested on suspicion of murder after the discovery, and have been released on bail. An investigation into the death is ongoing.
South Yorkshire Police’s Detective Inspector Adam Watkinson said: “Our thoughts today are with Richard Dyson’s family on what is an extremely difficult day for everyone who knew and loved him.
“We have supported Richard’s loved ones throughout our investigation into his disappearance, and will continue to do so following this tragic news.
We’re urging the public and members of the media to please respect their privacy at this time.
“Our investigation into Richard’s death is very much ongoing and I’d urge anyone who has information which could help our investigation to share it with us if you have not done so already.”
The force has asked anyone who could help with their inquiries to quote incident number 459 on November 25, 2019.
