Newsboy fancies his nap, On A VESPA, to win at Windsor and also hopes Daydreama can score at Carlisle and complete his Daily Double
ON A VESPA (8.28, Nap) has the engine to land the finale at Windsor on Monday evening. The three-year-old filly, trained by Jonathan Portman, has not got off the mark yet but will be ideally suited by the step up in trip to a mile after being placed at six and seven furlongs.
The daughter of Harry Angel was third over six furlongs at Salisbury in June and, last time out, showed his best work in the closing stages when second over seven furlongs at Chepstow. He made good headway over a furlong out and kept on well under today’s rider Rob Hornby to finish two and a quarter lengths behind Miakoda but one and a half lengths ahead of the rest of the field. The extra furlong of tonight’s Windsor Christmas Drone Show Handicap could see him break his duck.
At Carlisle, DAYDREAMA (7.05, nb) is fancied to take the Bet Smarter With Oddschecker+ EBF Restricted Novice Stakes over five furlongs. The Tim Easterby-trained juvenile was third on debut over today’s course and distance in May when getting the hang of things late on, finishing well to come home one and a quarter lengths behind Mister Moet. My selection then progressed from that to beat 10 rivals at Pontefract over six furlongs, making good headway over a furlong out and keeping on strongly to win going away from Showtown.
He can defy a penalty to go in again on Monday night.
