Patrick Dorgu has expressed his gratitude to the Manchester United faithful following the Red Devils’ triumphant return to form against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon. Ruben Amorim’s men fought back from a goal down to secure a crucial 2-1 win at Selhurst Park.
Jean-Philippe Mateta had given Palace the lead in the opening period, but United struck back after the interval to completely flip the script. Joshua Zirkzee drew the visitors level on 54 minutes with a clever finish before Mason Mount netted the decisive goal just after the hour mark.
The victory propels United up to seventh in the Premier League standings, having amassed 21 points from their first 13 fixtures. They now trail third-placed Chelsea by just three points.

Following United’s success in south London, Dorgu turned to Instagram to address the travelling supporters. Posting alongside a snap of himself in action, the left-back wrote: “Always thankful for the support [red love heart emoji].”
Having featured from the start in Monday’s disappointing 1-0 home reverse to Everton, Dorgu found himself relegated to the substitutes’ bench for the game against Palace. Nevertheless, he still managed to see some action, coming on for Amad Diallo during stoppage-time.
Amorim opted to deploy Diogo Dalot at left wing-back with Amad operating on the opposite flank. Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw comprised the defensive trio with Mount, Bryan Mbeumo and Zirkzee leading the attack.
Amorim’s tactical switch followed remarks he made during a press briefing about Dorgu and the disparity in his performances for Denmark compared to United. “When I see them training they are doing so much better than in games,” Amorim said.
“Then Patrick, when I see him playing for the national team, he’s scored a great goal against Scotland, the decision that he made under pressure was completely different to the decision(‘s) he’s making in our team.
“You can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball. I can feel it, the anxiety.”
It was Bruno Fernandes who stole the show against Palace, setting up both Zirkzee and Mount as United secured their first victory since October. Casemiro partnered him in the middle of the park with Senne Lammens filling the goalkeeper’s jersey.
Looking back on his team’s triumph, Amorim appeared relieved. When questioned whether he delivered any tactical instructions at the interval to spark a response from his United squad, the Portuguese manager revealed: “No, we just wanted everyone to understand the game.
“I felt in the last 10 minutes of the first half that the opponent was struggling, and that they would struggle in the second half. We had that feeling, and we needed to do something to change the way we were playing.
“We tried to change little things in the game – the intensity and the quality in the way we connect, especially Josh [Zirkzee] – he improved a lot the way we played.
“It was massive,” Fernandes, meanwhile told MUTV, when asked how big the win was for United. “We needed the three points after the performance and the result we had last week.
“We needed a response very quickly. I think first half was not great for us, but the second half was a very big response.”
