Customers frequenting Aldi, Asda, Morrisons, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s are being warned about strict time limits in “most” of their car parks. StartRescue has sounded the alarm: “The vast majority of supermarket car parks have a maximum allowed stay – usually of between one and three hours. If you go over this time limit, you could be handed a fine.”

They added that enforcement can vary: “But how efficiently or strictly a car park is patrolled varies between locations. A list of rules should be displayed on a sign in the car park.”

Highlighting technology use, they noted: “Note that some car parks are fitted with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems that recognise number plates and can therefore alert the wardens if a car has overstayed the minimum parking period.” In other similar news, ‘I tried butter from Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and big brands – and the winner is not Lurpak’.

This news surfaces as Aldi snatches the title of the UK’s cheapest supermarket from its rivals, reports Chronicle Live. Tesco has made it clear: “Free parking is available in most stores but time is limited to a maximum stay, depending on where the store is.”

Tesco further clarifies parking policies: “Where there is a maximum parking time, our car parks have signs which clearly display the terms and conditions of using the car park, including the maximum stay time. This time limit should also be shown on a sign at the entrance.”

Aldi has issued a statement clarifying their parking policy: “To make sure there’s enough room for everyone, we set a limit for how long you can park. There are signs up in all our car parks to tell you more.” The supermarket added: “It looks like our car park cameras think you stayed longer than the maximum shopping time we set.”

Sainsbury’s has made it clear that: “Our customers are welcome to park in most of our car parks for up to 2 hours completely free of charge. But if you’re not sure, don’t worry, each store has clear signs displayed with any extensions or restrictions.”

Morrisons has also weighed in, saying: “We offer free parking at the majority of our stores, but time is limited for a maximum duration. This can differ depending on where the store is located, please see signs in the car parks for more information or speak to the staff in store who will be more than happy to help.”

Asda has commented on the matter as well, noting: “Parking is free at most of our stores, but some locations may be Pay and Display. Details of this will be displayed on the signage in the store car park. Most car parks also have a maximum stay limit, which will be displayed within the car park.”
