Selena Gomez has explained why she and fiancé Benny Blanco were left ‘mortified’ at a lavish party hosted by Taylor Swift. Music fans will be well aware that 32-year-old Selena and 35-year-old Taylor have been firm friends for years – with the Kill Em With Kindness singer part of the Eras Tour stars’s ‘squad’.
Last year, Selena and 37-year-old Benny announced to the world that they had become engaged – and this year they have released a joint album, titled I Said I Love You First.
Selena and Benny have been promoting their new record – which includes the singles Call Me When You Break Up and Younger and Hotter Than Me.
And while recounting highlights of their relationship so far, the pair have revealed that they once landed themselves in an awkward scenario when attending a glitzy bash.
The couple were invited to an award show after-party hosted by Blank Space singer Swift – but it appeared Selena and Benny were overly keen to arrive. The couple were left cringing when they were the first to show up – and there was no one else there.

In an interview on Hot Ones, Benny asked his fiancée what was the first party they attended together, and Selena recalled: “I don’t know if this was the first but it was actually really funny. As a couple we went to Taylor’s party after some awards show.”
Revealing they arrived much earlier than the other guests, she flushed: “I don’t know it was kind of cute, but I was mortified. Apparently cool people don’t show up to parties on time.”
Benny then joked: “We’re the first people at every single party when I go with you. You show up when like my mother shows up to a party.”
Benny and Selena had not gone fully public with their romance at the time, however, as the I Can’t Get Enough producer noted: “No, I thought you were gonna talk about the fact that no one knew we were dating and we were hiding.” He also explained that he had been converted as a huge fan of Taylor’s music after falling for her best friend, Selena.
The star revealed: “I honestly didn’t know … before we started dating, like obviously, I was aware of Taylor Swift’s music. But I wasn’t like a true Swiftie until I was with [Selena].”
While Benny and Selena are planning their marriage, he shared his fear last month that she will leave him. Speaking to Interview magazine, Benny said that before their relationship he had decided to “stop everything” he was doing and “just focus” his “energy” on being a “grownup” and “being with the right person”. He added that now he “worships the ground she walks on” and expressed his belief that she feels the same way about him.
Benny said that there is “no ego” between the couple, who have worked together on songs like I Can’t Get Enough over the years. He said that they are both “praying” for the other to “win”.
He went on to say that he wakes up and asks himself “how can I make her life better?” He continued: “Holding her isn’t close enough. I want to be inside of her whole body. I just feel a thing for her that I can’t even explain.” He added that he’s “so sappy”.
