It’s a great time for TV fans as two hit shows, Netflix‘s Adolescence and BBC’s This City Is Ours have taken the world by storm as viewers continue to binge both shows. However, they may not realise that two stars from both shows have a surprise connection to one another.

Netflix’s Adolescence, starring Stephen Graham, has taken the world by storm and has carved out a unique place in British history, becoming the first streaming show to top the most-watched programme of the week.

Meanwhile, BBC’s crime drama This City Is Ours featuring actors including Sean Benn and Shaun Fagan has also had viewers hooked. Despite airing weekly on the channel, the whole series is available to binge on iPlayer.

Despite being on screens separately this time, Steven Graham, who plays Eddie Miller in Adolescence, and Shaun Fagan, who plays Barney in This City Is Ours have previously shared the screen together.

Shaun had also previously stated that Stephen was “the reason he got into acting,” although the star joked he ‘probably couldn’t say that to his face’.

The duo both starred in BBC’s Boiling Point together in 2023. The four-part series was a continuation of the 2021 Netflix film of the same name, starring Stephen Graham and Vinette Robinson in leading roles. It followed the intensity and high pressure of working in the kitchen of a highly busy restaurant.

Shaun played new character, Bolton as the hit film was moved over to the small screen. Despite playing a main role in the film, Stephen took more of a back seat during the TV series, as his character Andy was no longer in the main role.

Explaining why he’d taken a back seat during the BBC series, Adolescence star Stephen, who also produced the show, told Graham Norton: “There is not enough working-class drama on our screens and with our own production company we’re in a position to make that happen.

“This time I am not front and centre because we wanted to give others their moment in the sun.”

Speaking about his co-star Stephen before the release of Boiling Point, Shaun said: “I was a massive fan of Boiling Point and of Stephen Graham. I probably couldn’t say this to his face but he’s the reason I got into acting. Getting to share this space with actors like him was an incredible experience.”
