A This Morning star has been brutally mum-shamed by vile social media trolls after revealing she headed on a luxury holiday – without her children. Ashley James took to social media to announce that she was having some alone time and headed to Mexico, which she documented with her online followers.

The 37-year-old us mum to son Alfie, three, and daughter Ada, one, who she shares with her partner, Tommy Andrews. But rather than heading away on a family holiday, Ashley announced that while she needed time on her own, she also experienced mum guilt.

“I won’t lie, I forgot how much I absolutely love spending time by myself,” she told her online followers. She went on to add: “Before going away I felt so much guilt. Guilt about leaving Tommy on his own. Guilt about leaving the kids.

“I had to really talk myself out of it. Tommy goes away once a week every year for work. I used to always go away by myself – I deserve to go away by myself. They were just some of my thoughts.

“I went away to focus on a work project that wasn’t getting my attention and focus. It’s been so busy with work and kids – and the broken sleep isn’t great for creativity.” Ashley disclosed that prior to starting a family, she spent a lot of time solo travelling around Mexico which enabled her to see a completely different outlook on her single life.

“Solo travel was what allowed me to stop seeing my single status as failure. It allowed me to start questioning how we view a woman’s worth. It allowed me to fall in love with life,” she said. Ashley added: “I knew I wanted to come back to this place to work on this project.

“I savoured every moment. Being in the airport and on the plane and only having to think of myself. Getting to wake up and enjoy slow mornings before a day of work. Getting a full night sleep.” She later added that while she loved her time away, she couldn’t wait to get home and see her two children.

However, many questioned Ashley’s decision to fly across the world to spend time alone. One cruel follower penned: “But flying? I don’t know how anyone can justify a long haul flight with a clear conscience.” A second added: “I would love to know how you left the babies when they are so little.”

Despite the criticism, many rushed to defend the star, with one writing: “”Love this, we all need a bit of time to recharge and remember who we are outside of mummmm mummmm.” “I love that you did this for yourself. How lovely,” commented another. Ashley’s trip comes after she opened up to the Mirror about her struggles as a mum of two young children.

“Motherhood is definitely a journey,” she told us. She went on to add: “I think the reason that so many of us struggle is not because of our babies and the bond we have with our babies but because we’re almost trying to do the impossible, in a system that doesn’t necessarily support us, or in a system that hasn’t really evolved since the days that the majority of us were housewives.

“Even if you look at the school hours versus working hours and the cost of childcare, there are so many barriers. I think it’s really hard, even working all day, you just have to keep going. I feel in a really good place with motherhood and I feel like they’ve become part of my drive to fight for equality and to fight for positive change.”

The TV star went on to add: “Not just for my daughter but also for my son, if you look at toxic masculinity and sexist attitudes, I don’t want him to ever feel he can’t be himself. I want him to grow up respecting women and bringing it back to football, if he ever decides that he is into football, getting to see women represented, not just as players and the Lionesses but as commentators and sport, all of this is helping men see women in their spaces.”
