A woman let out a “determined” scream after checking her Ring video doorbell camera as she spotted something “huge” in her garden. Video doorbells are becoming more and more popular as people seek additional security measures to protect themselves and ensure they feel safe at home.
There’s a variety of companies on the market which offer video surveillance that can be checked from the safety of a smartphone. Some people choose a video doorbell so they never miss a parcel delivery, while others crave the peace of mind that comes from being able to check on their home no matter where they are.
One woman got a shock in the middle of her night after checking her Ring camera and spotting a “huge” bear in her back garden.
The apex predator was trying to get into the woman’s chicken coop. The large dwelling appears to have been constructed in wood.
The bear can be seen pushing on the little building, before it stands up and tries to bite the door to gain entry.
After temporarily turning and walking away from the chicken coop, the bear returns and bites the wooden door frame, pawing at it to cause damage.
It looks as though the bear may be able to break in and gain access to the chickens inside but the woman, after checking the footage, can be heard letting out a threatening scream.
This startles the bear, which then runs off and jumps over the little fence before disappearing into the dark of the night.
Ring shared the footage on Instagram. In the caption accompanying the clip, the surveillance company penned: “This bear tried breaking into a chicken coop in the middle of the night!”
The post racked up more than 83,000 views and over 4,000 likes.
In the comments section, people were keen to share their thoughts. One person simply said: “Holy moly that’s a huge bear!!!”
Another said: “I hope he didn’t come back another night. Chickens must have been terrified.”
In response to the woman’s scream heard in the footage, a third Instagram user said: “If I heard a scream like that, I would run too.”
Someone else said: “Wow! That is a yell of determination. If I was a bear I would have run too!”
Another person said: “Awww those poor chickens were [probably] so scared, I’m glad it was scared and ran away [sobbing emojis] my anxiety would make me watching my ring camera allllllll night from now on.”
One person commented: “He was about to destroy that cage.”
And someone else suggested: “Better make that coop out of steel lol things coming down next time.”
Bears are powerful apex predators. There’s currently eight recognised species of bear including the giant panda, polar bear, sloth bear, sun bear, American black bear, Asiatic black bear, spectacled bear, and the brown bear, with the famed grizzly bear being a subspecies of this.
