B&M’s opening hours over the bank holiday

B&M have announced that most of their stores will open as normal on the early May bank holiday.

However, some stores may open later or close earlier so it would be wise to ask for more information in-store.

Alternatively, check on the B&M app or check online.

Most supermarket chains, including Tesco, Lidl and Aldi, will be staying open over the holiday.

Aldi, though, will be closing slightly earlier than normal at 8pm.

DIY stores B&Q and Screwfix have confirmed that they will be staying open too.

However, Sainsbury’s announced that it would be bucking the trend by closing 500 of its stores.

B&M’s story

B&M was founded by Malcolm Billington and Brian Mayman in 1978.

The pair launched their company in Cleveleys, before it was bought out in 1996.

The company was acquired by Phildrew Investments in 2004 and went on to see significant growth in the succeeding years.

By 2014, the chain had opened its 400th store and, by 2018, it acquired the French discount retailer Babou.

B&M’s range of budget-friendly goods

B&M offers a wide range of products which go viral on TikTok and Facebook.

Babou stores were soon replaced by B&M shops.

The brand tightened its grip on the high street in 2023 when it acquired 51 Wilko stores from the administrator for £13 million.

2025 bank holidays

There are still at least four bank holidays for Brits to look forward to after the early May bank holiday.

Although the holiday calendar is largely the same across the UK, Scotland and Northern Ireland do have two extra days off compared to England.

Both countries celebrate St Andrew’s Day and Northern Ireland has the additional holiday of the Battle of the Boyne.
