THE Old Trafford faithful have seen some terrible stuff this season – but this felt much more like old times.

Right from the first whistle, United looked like a team whose season depended on this game – which of course it did.

Manuel Ugarte rounded off a wonderful move to give the Red Devils an early lead before Diogo Dalot struck right on half time.

Even Andre Onana made a couple of decent saves.  Surely United are bound for the semis.

The hosts could do with having someone solely tracking his runs to nullify his threat.

They look very nervous as the crosses come in.

You do wonder with this high-tempo pressing all over the pitch whether Man Utd can keep that up for the entire match.

There is no doubting the French side pass the ball around well.

As a cross comes into the box. Yoro misses it and Maitland-Niles puts it over the crossbar.

A FLYING start for United…and a case of avez vous that to the French fans off Andre Onana!

As soon as Manuel Ugarte’s sidefooted opener hit the net, Onana was off, racing to his left and celebrating wildly in front of the Lyon section who had been giving the bird.

Just for good measure he annoyed them even more soon after with a nifty tip over from Paul Akoukou’s header, too.

27. Man Utd are trying to press Lyon high up the pitch.

They just need to make sure that the visitors cannot play through that as they will be in a world of trouble.

Yoro uses his pace well to beat Cherki to the ball and feeds it back to Onana.

Lyon are growing into the game, getting into the final third more.

As a move breaks down, Garnacho goes on a run towards the visitors’ goal but his shot deflects behind for a corner.

Perri makes a superb fingertip stop to send it behind for a corner.

You feel he is integral to them getting a positive result here.

It will be interesting to see how Lyon react to going a goal down so early on in this tie.

Let’s hope he doesn’t end up with egg on his face as he did out in France after similar antics.

Fernandes is down on the floor and looking like he needs some treatment.
